Humble Beginnings

Every year we have people ask."...so how do you get started?". Guess we should write it down!! Rich actually started building a haunted house when he was 5 years old!! Didn't know what a haunted house was supposed to be, but he built his own vision... and charged to go through!! A professional at 5 years old!!

By 12 years old he was building haunts in the garage, during the summer of course! (Had to trick or treat on Halloween!!) Again, he charged and used the ticket sales to buy new props and build new scenes!

Skip ahead to adulthood! In Chicago he decorated his yard every year and had hundreds of people go through the display. Moving to Vegas he continued the tradition here. Setting up the display for one night only!! The yard displays were always free and open to the public!

When Jan and Rich got together, Jan caught the bug too. First she just let him decorate the yard, then it started taking on a life of its own!!

Maybe we should start a series on how the Asylum & Hotel Fear came to be!!

For now here is a Polaroid, (for those of you unaware, Google it, it was big before digital cameras!!) It is one of the very first displays, around 1996, that put us one the road to becoming Haunted House owners and designers!!
